Lake District Map

Welcome to this interactive Lake District Map. There are three different map types to choose from – a Google Map (default), the Google Earth 3D Map, and an Ordnance Survey OS Map of the Lake District. There is a navigation panel in the right hand side bar. Clicking on the links will take you to a different feature on the map by changing the location and zoom level. You can also explore the Lake District Map manually by using the navigation control in the map window.

Using the Lake District Map

Click the check boxes above to view Points of Interest descriptions in information bubbles that open on the map surface. For the Google Map there are additional layers which allow you to view Geo-tagged Panaramio photographs and Wikipedia articles relating to specific Lake District areas. Select which type of Lake District Map you require by clicking the appropriate radio button.

If you don't already have the Google Earth Plug-in installed, here is a short video of one of the Lake District Map tours to give you an idea of what it is like. Once you install the Plug-in you can use the 3d Lake District Map interactively

Search the Lake District Map

You can now search the Lake District Map using the Google Search box in the bottom left hand corner of the map window. Simply type in the name of a location, restaurant or hotel etc, and a results window will open in the Lake District Map, along with markers matching your search query. For best results, you might want to untick the Points of Interest box on the left hand side of the page to remove the existing map markers. This feature works with the 2d Google Lake District Map

Map Navigation Links - select a category and click on a link. The Lake District Map will then change location and zoom level so you can view the requested feature. You can also adjust the map positioning manually using the navigation control in the map Window.
